The Six/Four System takes its name from June 4th, the date thousands of peaceful demonstrators were massacred in Tiananmen Square in China by the People's Liberation Army. The Six/Four System is a new protocol standard for decentralized peer-to-peer networks. Data between Trusted Peers and clients is tunneled using a trusted public key for data encryption and authentication. Together with the decentralized, Gnutella-like, but anonymous mode of routing in the Six/Four Network, this makes state-sponsored censorship based on either host-based access controls or content filtering ultimately impossible.

The Monteparadiso HackLab is a project of the Monteparadiso Collective (squat.net/monteparadiso) from Pula (croatia). We have 11 computers with Debian Linux and people can use them for free to browse on the net, check mail, write, etc... everyday from 19 to 23. In the hacklab is also possible to copy cds, have a copy of a Linux or BSD distribution for free. There is always a person that assists the users of the hacklab. There are also free courses on Linux, html, perl, CGI, Linux instalation, etc... We also have a project called Rojcnet (www.rojcnet.hr). The project is about connecting and informing all the NGOs and iniciatives situated in the ex military barracks Karlo Rojc in Pula. The network among the NGOs and iniciatives is run through the mailing list rojcnet@list.carnet.hr. The news about the iniciatives in Rojc (just in croatian) are on www.rojcnet.hr

Magaf (Hebrew for boot) is a community of Israeli geeks. The idea is to have a play-field where people can experience various technologies. The most active and popular crew is the "Johny Random Seed" crew. It maintains "Ubik CipherSabre" - a javascript implementation of strong encryption and various ubik-based applications. The crew promotes it at physical (and soon - virtual) eParanoia workshops. We also have a free-for-all no-questions-asked Jabber instant-messaging server. It's not encrypted (no SSL) in order to encourage people to use client-side encryption and leave us out of the loop (how do you know WE weren't hacked?). Feel free to open accounts there. It's free and anonymous. For help on client-side encryption, just yell - and we'll help you DIY it. Play nice :-)

Besides powering several indymedia sites, a number of progessive organizations use Mir customized for their own needs. The GCA (Gender Changer Academy) is a nonprofit organisation run by women volunteers. Borne out of the ASCII initiative we started out in December 2000. Today there are GCA groups in Amsterdam, London, Philadelphia and soon also Vancouver. Our primary goal is to improve women's understanding and skills with regards to (recycled) computer technology, Free Software and Open Source products.
